For a very long time, this has been one of my favourite mantras.

It encapsulates so simply the world of difference, importance and focus between a Project Manager and a Change Manager.

Both are vitally important, but have very different roles to play and outcomes to focus on.

Both are required for successful change, and therefore equals in the success of the project.

Both require time with and guidance from the Project Sponsor, for very different reasons, but sadly this balance is not well understood by Sponsors or Project Managers.

My goal, wherever I work, is to help Sponsors or Project Managers understand why this little meme is so important. Why Project Manager/Change Manager shared project leadership, for the vitally important but different project elements of technical readiness and business readiness, is crucial for project success.

More on this later.
